SUMMARY:Speed-Fanatics Race Driving Training
DESCRIPTION:SFMC – RACE DRIVER TRAINING AT SPEED-FANATICS MOTORSPORTS CIRCUIT\, MISSION BC\nWRITTEN CIRRICULUM\nBoth ground school and on-track training will be instructed by only current CACC licensed instructors\nThere will be a ground school held via ZOOM. This ground school will be a 3.5hr session which consists\nof:\nAl\, Derrick\, Marco\, Gary\,\n1) seating positions and vision\n2) driving dynamics: race lines\, threshold braking\, balance of grip\, racing in the rain\n3) knowledge of flags\,\n4) racing procedures\,\n5) introduction of safety equipment for drivers and race cars\,\n6) Information in obtaining CACC novice licenses\n4 to 5 CACC licensed race instructors are going to take turns covering the topics. In between topics\,\nthere will be 3 short online quizzes\, each containing 10 questions. Students have 8 mins to answer each\nof the 3 quizzes and the quizzes are NOT to be written in open book format\nStudents are required to have their computer or mobile phone cameras on during the entire time of the\nclassroom and quiz sessions.\nStudents MUST pass the quizzes with a score 8 out of 10 in order to take part in the on-track session.\nFor those who struggled on the quizzes\, instructors will contact them between the classroom and ontrack sessions to go through and to make sure students understand the knowledge prior to taking part\non track.\nCopies of the quizzes are attached in the email.\nThe on-track training will be a one day program to be teach by CACC licensed race instructors.\nActivities and schedules are as follows:\n7:00am – Gate opens\, tech and registrations\n7:45am – Track walk – instructors to take small packs of students in performing a small group track walk.\nPurpose of this exercise is to review what was covered during the classroom session including\ninformation on racing lines\, cornering basics\, and vehicle dynamics. Students can use this time to ask\nany questions they may have after the classroom session\n8:45am – Drivers Meeting – Chief instructor will go through the run down of the day\, introduce each\ninstructor to the students and to reemphasize the importance of safety and discipline required for\nmotorsport.\n9:15am – Corner Exercises (3 color tapes)\n1) Trail braking exercise. Start gate will be setup on the front straight pass the start finish\nline\, on the racing line. Students are asked to accelerate until the braking zone of T1 and\nthen practice trail braking into making T1. Instructors will perform demo runs and will\nalso get in cars with students who struggle. Spotter will be standing at T1 and T2 corner\nstations. This exercise ends pass the exit of T2. Students will then receive feedbacks from\ndebriefing instructor. After this exercise\, students will line up for Firm Braking exercise\nbetween T2 and T3.\n2) Firm braking exercise. Start gate will be setup mid way between T2 and T3. Students are\nasked to accelerate until the cones setup for beginning of braking zone and be able to\ncompletely stop the car without jerking on the brakes by the end of the braking zone.\nDistance of the braking zone will reduce throughout the runs to ensure students\nunderstand the importance of initial firm braking for a corner without lock ups and\nupsetting the balance of the car. Spotter will be standing at T3 corner station and\nstudents will receive feedback from debriefing instructor at the run off area of T3. After\nthis exercise\, students will drive to the escape road of T4 and line up for the Complex\nCorner Exercise.\n3) Complex corner exercise. Start gate will be setup at T6. Students will drive at moderate\nspeed accelerating to T7a\, practice trail braking into T7a then transition into partial\nthrottle through 7b and holding a constant steering angle through T8 and T9 exit and a\nslow speed. This exercise will end at the exit of T9. Spotter will be in position at T7 corner\nworking station. Students will receive feedbacks from debriefing instructor at the end of\nthe exercise on the front straight before they loop back for Exercise 1.\n11:15am – Drivers Meeting – Chief instructor to assign students to their instructors of the day and to\nseparate students into different run groups.\n11:30am – (Group 1) Slow Lapping with instructors. Instructors to drive students’ cars for 3-4 laps at a\nslow speed. Instructors will demonstrate proper lines\, braking techniques\, to show 3 elements of\ncornering (braking\, apex\, and exit) for each turn and to introduce the track layout through the\ninstallation laps. Students will then drive at slow speed with instructors in passenger seats. Instructors\nwill be able to observe strengths and weaknesses of each students\, then able to provide feedback after\nthe session.\n11:50am – (Group 2) Slow Lapping with instructors.\n12:10pm – Lunch break at the SFMC clubhouse. Instructors will perform demonstrations of racing lines\nand techniques around Speed-Fanatics Motorsports Circuit with a driving simulator setup at the\nclubhouse\n1:00m – (Group 1) Slow Lapping\, no passing (instructors in passenger seats). Students to drive around\nthe track to practice and continue to work on perfecting their racing lines and braking techniques.\n1:20pm – (Group 2) Slow Lapping\n1:40pm – (Group 1) Slow Lapping with passing #1 (instructors in passenger seats). Students to drive\naround the track to practice and continue to work on perfecting their racing lines and braking\ntechniques.\n2:00pm – (Group 2) Slow Lapping with passing #1\n2:20pm – (Group 1) Slow Lapping with passing #2 (instructors in passenger seats). Students continue to\ndrive around the track to practice and to work on perfecting their racing lines and braking techniques.\nStudents are allowed to practice point by passing each other in the 3 designated passing zones (front\nstraight\, between T2 and T3\, and between T6-7).\n2:40pm – (Group 2) Slow Lapping with passing #2\n3:00pm – Drivers Meeting – review of flags\, introduce race start procedures\n3:15pm – (Group 1) simulation race start procedure. Students to drive out from pre grid onto the front\nstraight of the track. Splitter to stand on front straight directing drivers their starting positions. Students\nto follow pace car around the track and simulate single file\, tire scrubbing procedure. Pace car will then\nturn off its flashing lights at T5 with students starting to form 2 by 2 packing through T6 to T9.\nStart/Finish tower will either waive yellow flag for bad starts\, or green flag for race starts. Students will\nthen accelerate to braking zone of T1 to sort out their positions on track\, then drive at normal lapping\nspeed up to the exit of T2. Lead car will then slow down to lead the pack to T5 again. Students are\nexpected to form a 2 by 2 formation once again through T6 to T9 and wait for another race start\nprocedure.\n3:35pm – (Group 2) simulation race start procedure\n3:40pm – Drivers Meeting – introduction to race craft\, car management\, and review of flags\n4:00pm – (Group 1) Race craft practices with instructors\, pairing up of students for this exercise. Pair of\nstudent cars will drive out together and spaced out with the next pair. Students will be introduced to\npassing in braking zones into T1\, T3\, and T7 at moderate speed. Students will rotate between passing or\nbeing passed in the session.\n4:20pm – (Group 2) Race craft practices with instructors\n4:45pm – Drivers Meeting – Briefing on what to expect on race weekends\, procedures\, and manners\n5:00pm – (Group 1) Simulation of novice race. Students will stage at pre-grid\, then drive out to front\nstraight of track to go through a race starting procedure. They are encouraged to drive at a lesser pace\nin this exercise. Race control will test them with different flags and racing scenarios through this session\nto make sure that students have learnt all the information taught throughout the course. Instructor to\nobserve around the track.\n5:20pm – (Group 2) Simulation of novice race.\n5:45pm – Final Drivers Meeting – Chief instructor to conclude the course. Course completion certificates\nwill be handed out to those who successfully demonstrated what was needed to race safely on track.\nSFMC will provide a detailed summary and report to CACC after the course and to provide a list of\nstudents who successfully completed the course\, eligible for a CACC novice race license.
