Time Attack

Time Attack Motorsport Discipline

The CACC Time Attack discipline represents a form of motorsport where racers compete for the best lap time. Vehicles are timed through circuits of the track and the competitor with the quickest circuit time wins the session. Racers make a preliminary circuit through the course, then run timed laps, finishing with a cool-down lap.

The CACC Time Attack discipline hosts five sub-disciplines: Time Attack, Time Attack – Passing, Hill Climb, Track Days, and High Performance Driver Education.

Track Days provides an opportunity for members to drive their car on a race course. Track Days are non-competitive and the organizer does not provide timing.

Time Attack (no passing) events are competitive and are typically held on race courses and involve timed laps. For safety reasons, competitors are not allowed to pass one another. Time Attack Passing events are similar to its no-passing counterpart with the exception that passing is allowed under certain conditions, and typically only at certain sections of the course. CACC sanctions events at Mission Raceway Park’s River’s Edge Road Course in Mission, BC through affiliate clubs such as the Sports Car Club of BC, Vancouver Island Motorsport Club and VCMC Motorsport Club.

Hillclimb is unique in the discipline in that it is not run on a circuit but on a closed paved uphill road. Considered the most challenging of all the Time Attack events, hillclimb drivers compete for the fastest time from the bottom to the top of the hill. Hillclimbs feature significant elevation changes and courses are often lined with rock walls on one side and sheer cliffs on the other. The CACC-sanctioned Knox Mountain Hillclimb in Kelowna, BC is longest-running and only hillclimb event in Canada.

CACC’s High Performance Driver Education (HPDE) program is designed to teach drivers proper high speed driving techniques. Clubs affiliated with the CACC host periodic events at local racetracks for the benefit of their members. HPDE events are not competitive. Cars operate under strict “rules of engagement” which minimize the likelihood of dangerous interaction with other cars.
